Metchosin's Tom Kral brings a mushroom workshop to Sooke on October 14

The Nature's Chef founder leads an afternoon of mushroom identification, preserving and cooking at SEAPARC Bike Park.

Tom Kral's interest in wild food began long before Nature's Chef. In his biography, the Metchosin chef describes growing up around his family's Czech deli in Toronto and learning to gather food at a Muskoka cottage, where blueberries became jam and mushrooms were dried for later.

On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, he leads an introductory mushroom workshop through EMCS Community Programs in Sooke.

What to expect

The session covers identification, mushroom families, forest ecology, preserving and cooking. The organizer says fresh specimens will be brought for participants to examine. This is an introduction to foraging, rather than a mushroom-harvesting outing.

Mushroom tea and snacks are included. The organizer asks participants to dress for the weather and an afternoon outdoors.

Time, place and registration

The workshop runs from 3pm to 6pm at SEAPARC Bike Park. The listed fee is $133.33 plus GST. Email emcsprograms@sd62.bc.ca to register and confirm availability before attending.
