The Westshore is a free, twice-weekly, email-first local paper for Langford · Colwood · Metchosin · Sooke · Highlands · View Royal. Six municipalities, six council chambers, one newsroom that lives out here and gets stuck in the same traffic you do.

Everything we publish is free to read. Sources are linked. Corrections are logged where you can see them. The Community Board and the Datebook cost nothing to use, and they always will.

How we work

Five things we will not trade away.

Nothing has needed correcting in the current run of editions. When something does, it appears here and in the next edition, with what was wrong and what is right.

1Follow the evidence, and show it.Every story links to the agenda, the report or the filing it came from, so you can read it yourself.

2We name our sources.Unless naming them would cost them their job, their safety or their housing. Then we tell you why we didn't.

3Sponsors buy space, never coverage.One local sponsor per edition, labelled so clearly your aunt could spot it.

4We correct fast, and in public.Send the link and the detail that needs checking. Corrections run in the next edition, not quietly overnight.

5Free is the point.Local news that only some locals can read is not local news. It is a club.
