Colwood is asking the province for long-term infrastructure funding as the city works toward provincial housing targets.
In an October 9 release, the city says it submitted its second housing-target progress report on October 8. At the September 28 council meeting, council also directed staff to write to the Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs.
The city's position is that it is meeting, and remains on track to meet, its housing targets, but cannot support further growth without funding and coordination.
What Colwood is asking for
The requests cover roads, sanitary sewer, water, drainage, transit, schools and other services. Colwood wants a stable provincial funding framework, updated funding tools and cost sharing, and closer coordination between infrastructure capacity and development approvals.
Where funding commitments cannot be secured, the city asks the province to consider phased approvals and clarify how housing targets could be adjusted. It also seeks an update on affordable-housing funding for the 85 Belmont project.
What the announcement means
These are the city's requests to the province. The release does not announce a funding agreement or a change to housing targets.
